The region was affected to highest degree by the
drainage of natural wetland bio-filters from river Zala. The bottom
of the lake is covered with a 15 – 30 cm thick layer of very soft,
unconsolidated sludge. This layer is underlain by a thick layer of
consolidated, gas bearing mud.
